Twins’ Manager Rocco Baldelli Got Ejected After Yankees’ Domingo German Was Cleared For Substance Check
Up a 6-1 victory for the Yankees over the Twins, Domingo German turned up one of his greatest performances of the year, but it wasn’t without controversy.
Twins’ Manager Rocco Baldelli Got Ejected After Yankees’ Domingo German Was Cleared For Substance Check
The umpires seemed to offer the pitcher and manager Aaron Boone directions after the third inning as they searched German for any sticky substances. James Hoye, the crew chief, examined German once again as he took the pitch for the fourth, which sparked a lengthy discussion over whatever was on German’s hand.
Hoye appeared to advise German, “You need to wash your hands,” suggesting that he could have had something foreign on his right hand. German continued to play, which annoyed Twins manager Rocco Baldelli, who finally lost his appeal and was dismissed from the game.
Just to sum this up…Domingo German was cheating by using sticky stuff, the umpires caught him using the sticky stuff, was only told to wash his hands, while the only person ejected here was Rocco Baldelli for wanting the umpires to enforce the rules. K. pic.twitter.com/ih5j5KJ9R2

When a drug test takes this long, the umpire almost usually finds something and ejects the pitcher. Rocco Baldelli, manager of the Minnesota Twins, was perplexed by the fact that this wasn’t the case and was promptly dismissed.
We’ve got a situation in NY
Domingo German was stopped for an extended check by the umpires. All umpires got together continuing to check his hand+glove.
They eventually allowed him back on the mound. Rocco Baldelli did NOT like that and got tossed.

All in all, it was a strange scenario. If he wasn’t taking any illicit substances, why were the umpires so focused on him? Why did they check on him again before he entered the game in the fourth?

German pitched 6 1/3 innings, giving up just three hits and one run. After 5 1/3 flawless innings, he eventually exited the game. Before Saturday, German had thrown 7 and a third innings and surrendered six runs on six hits and five walks.

German had too much rosin on his hands before taking the mound, Boone said reporters after the game.
“It was enough to raise a flag for him,” Boone said, via MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.
