Minnesota Twins catcher Mitch Garver took to social media to say he had surgery Tuesday night after taking a foul ball in the groin.

Garver left Tuesday’s 7-4 loss to the Baltimore Orioles after a foul ball from Trey Mancini caught Garver in the inner thigh. He left the game and went to a hospital for further examination.

“Just judging on what we know, right now, it’s probably unlikely that Mitch is going to be catching anytime soon,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said after Tuesday’s game. “To be honest, he’s in rough shape.”

The Twins have not announced that Garver underwent a surgical procedure and have not yet. made a roster move.

“Quick update: I did leave the game (Tuesday) with a ‘groin contusion’ and had to go to the emergency room for an ultrasound,” Garner posted to social media. “The imaging showed I needed surgery.

“A successful surgery was performed and I stayed the night in the hospital. I’m recovering well. Thanks for all of the messages and texts.”

Garver, 30, is batting .224 with eight home runs and 17 RBIs in 41 games this season. In five seasons, all with the Twins, he is a career .251 hitter over 282 games with 48 home runs and 137 RBIs.
