Top Prospect Shavkat Rakhmonov Recognizes Colby Covington as the Real Deal Despite Crossing the Limit in Trash Talk

Arguably the most promising prospect in the sport right now, Shavkat Rakhmonov spoke to James Lynch and talked about former interim champion Colby Covington. Rakhmonov is fresh off the biggest win of his professional career when he stopped Neil Magny with just a few seconds remaining in round 2.

Rakhmonov secured a dominant position on Magny for nearly the entirety of the fight and was successful in controlling the veteran. Magny is no slouch on the mat simply couldn’t find the necessary space and was eventually submitted.

With the win over Magny, Shavkat Rakhmonov has established himself as a legitimate contender to be feared and is likely set to face the upper echelon of the division as time moves on.

Shavkat Rakhmonov assesses Colby Covington

Everybody in the MMA world has an opinion on Colby ‘Chaos’ Covington and Shavkat Rakhmonov is no different. The top prospect recognized Covington as a skilled fighter who often gets overlooked due to his extreme trash talking in the lead-up to fights.

Rakhmonov recognized Covington’s fighting spirit, and it’s evident that he views Colby Covington as a major threat down the road. It seems as though Rakhmonov has placed Covington in high regard after watching him go to war against the ever-indomitable champion Kamaru Usman.

“This guy does a lot of trash talking and sometimes, he crosses the limit with that. He’s a very good fighter and a lot of people underestimate him. But he’s a very, very tough fighter, good spirit and he showed that in the last two fights.” [h/t sportskeeda.com]

A fight between Rakhmonov and Covington isn’t as far away as some may believe since ‘Nomad’ is on a tear in the division. He’s possibly less than three fights away from fighting for the belt and both hardcore, as well as casual fans, have taken notice of his rise up the ranks.

On the other hand, Colby Covington is in desperate need of new faces at the top of the division since he’s not in a position to secure an immediate trilogy fight against Kamaru Usman.
