Top Five Things You Did Not Know About NBA Superstar Russell Westbrook

As the fourth overall pick in the 2008 draft, the Oklahoma City Thunder picked Russell Westbrook. The six foot three-inch point guard out of UCLA made headlines in college as his performances put him on the radar of every single team in the NBA. 

In his second year in college, and first, as the starter, Westbrook finished the season averaging 12.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.6 steals. Despite winning multiple individual honors, the biggest prize in Basketball has eluded Westbrook for over 15 years now. He will be hoping that with Anthony Davis and LeBron James by his side, he can add a ring sooner rather than later. Today we take a look at some lesser-known facts that fans might not know about Russell Westbrook. 

Early college exit 

Westbrook enrolled in a four-year program at UCLA. However, after two years, he decided it was time to enroll for the NBA draft. While this is a pretty common practice, Westbrook stayed in school and finished the quarter which is extremely rare for high draft picks in the NBA or the NFL. 

Team re-named

In the 2008 draft, Russell Westbrook was picked fourth overall by the Seattle SuperSonics. However, just six days after he was picked the team relocated to Oklahoma and became the OKC Thunder where he spent the next 11 years. 

Late Bloomer

Westbrook did not have the most imposing figure as a high school student as a point guard he stood at only 5 ft 8 inches and weighed 140 pounds. Westbrook shot up to his adult height of 6 ft 3 inches in the summer before his senior year and also put on a considerable amount of muscle as well. 

Pre-game ritual

The 34-year-old has a pre-game ritual he has been following for ages. Prior to the game, Westbrook eats peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
