Top 5 NBA Coaches With Highest Salary

Top 5 NBA Coaches With Highest Salary

Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs

Coach Pop rightly maintained the top rank for a long time. He is one of the most successful coaches in NBA history, having won five NBA championships and three Coach of the Year honours while leading the Spurs to 22 consecutive playoff appearances from 1998 to 2019.

Popovich, who is now 74 years old, is also the president of the San Antonio Spurs, which he has led since 1996.

He’s won a whopping 64.2 percent of his regular-season games, totaling 1,366. In his 28 seasons as a coach, he has made the playoffs 22 times, most recently in 2018-19.

No one in the NBA is more deserving of the title of highest-paid coach than Popovich, who just signed a one-year deal for $16 million.

Monty Williams, Detroit Pistons

Williams’ contract provides him with a salary of more than $13 million every season, which was a record for a short while.

That means Williams’ average compensation is $13.05 million, but that doesn’t account for the rumored incentives that may push the contract to $100 million over eight years. While being compensated well for his services, Williams has the luxury of time to develop a young Pistons franchise.

Williams has only appeared in one NBA Finals and has yet to capture his first championship. He is noted, though, for having a strong personality and a propensity for cultivating emerging talent.

Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors

Following a great playing career, Kerr has also been solidifying his reputation as a coach in the NBA. He has guided the Warriors to four NBA championships since taking over as head coach in 2014, and in 2016 he was voted Coach of the Year.
Since Kerr’s current contract, which he is in the last year of, was for five years and he supposedly has an annual salary of between $8 million and $9.5 million, we may estimate that the entire worth of his current agreement was somewhere between $40 million and $48 million.
Kerr has guided the Warriors to six NBA Finals trips and four championships during his time in Golden State.
His quick-paced, small-ball lines with plenty of spacing have also contributed to the revolutionization of basketball. With a salary of $9.5 million a season, Kerr currently seems to be slightly underpaid when compared to some of the more recent coaching contracts that have been awarded.
Erik Spoelstra, Miami Heat
Since taking over as head coach of the Miami Heat in 2008, Erik Spoelstra has established himself as one of the best coaches in NBA history. During his time as coach of the Heat, Spoelstra guided the team to two championships and six trips to the NBA Finals.

As he constantly assists his teams in exceeding expectations year after year, he has also been known to make the most of average squads.Spoelstra may get upwards of $20 million year on his next contract, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, which would catapult him to the top of our list (spoiler warning). He has won 704 games during the regular season, two NBA championships, and six Eastern Conference Championships.

Nick Nurse, Toronto Raptors

Over the course of his five seasons with the Toronto Raptors, Nick Nurse advanced near the top of the NBA coaching rankings. 2019 saw Nurse guide the Raptors to their first NBA championship. He has a reputation as one of the league’s most creative coaches as well.
Despite the fact that Nurse is now the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers, the reason he is included on this list is the 2020 Raptors contract extension he signed, which is said to be worth $32 million over four seasons. He did not complete his contract with Toronto since he was let go after the 2022–23 season.
Even though Nurse’s final season in Toronto didn’t go as planned, he was still in demand even after being fired this offseason. Nurse will now make $9 million a season in Philadelphia after being recruited by the 76ers in May.
