Top 3 offensive tackles for the 2022 season

If you want your quarterback to always play at the highest level, then it’s essential to have a duo of offensive tackles that really can protect him – especially his blindside.

Pass protection is vital for any quarterback and those who suffer without a consistent offensive line are prone to suffer serious injuries. In some cases, things get even more extreme, such as asking to be traded – Russell Wilson is the perfect example here.

Check out the top three offensive tackles for the 2022 season.

#1 – Trent Williams, San Francisco 49ers

Williams is well into his 30s, but all he did in 2021 was cement his place as the best offensive tackle in the NFL. He tore to shreds absolutely every edge that he played against, and his athleticism made him a walking mountain really to beat anything in his front as a run blocker. The year away from football in 2019 seems to have really helped him maintain a great shape and improve his level even more. He’s incredibly dominant and the best tackle in the league.

#2 – Tristan Wirfs, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Wirfs is just entering his third season in the league, but he’s arguably the best right tackle and there’s still room to improve with more experience. His combination of power and quickness make him really difficult to beat as a pass rusher, and he has virtually no weaknesses as a run blocker as well. He came into the league as a very good player and transcended into elite levels.

#3 – Lane Johnson, Philadelphia Eagles

Johnson’s consistency over the past decade has seen the Eagles never worried with the right side of the line – he had some problems with suspensions and spent a period away from the team, and the difference to any backup was really felt. Johnson is a really great pass blocker and his athleticism to move into the second level as a run blocker is really impressive. He has gotten old, but his qualities remain the same.
