Top 2023 NFL Draft prospect : Cameron Ward

Washington State QB Cameron Ward thrived at the FCS level after going unnoticed in high school, and he anticipates that his move to the Power 5 will be a stop on his route to the NFL.

He made the switch from Incarnate Word to Washington State in 2022 and is the only quarterback to play in the Power 5. For the Cardinals last season, he accumulated 4,648 throwing yards and 47 touchdowns; these numbers are comparable to those of Alabama’s Bryce Young, the current Heisman Trophy winner. These scores make him a great contender for the Heisman Trophy.

WHAT DOES THE COACH HAVE TO SAY?

Jake Dickert, the coach at Washington State, isn’t hesitant to draw comparisons to potential NFL quarterback prospects.

“This makes me think of the time I got to spend with Josh Allen at Wyoming.” “That contagious individual that is passionate about the sport enjoys hanging out with guys and has never had a bad day. It’s incredible how contagious and how that stuff builds up. Cameron is naturally that way; nothing about him is forced.”

EXPERTS SAY

Emory Hunt of CBS Sports believes that because Cameron Ward is a Heisman dark horse contender, the Cougars are a Pac-12 title danger.
Hunt recently noted on CBS Sports HQ, “You really have to have outstanding quarterback play to have a successful football team. “Cam Ward, who I widely documented at the FCS level at Incarnate Word, is coming to Washington State. This guy reminds me a lot of what Steve McNair used to be like at Alcorn State. He consistently produces some incredible passing-game plays each week.

Ward is a candidate for the Maxwell Award before the 2022 season. On Sept. 3, the Cougars host Idaho at home to get the season started. When WSU plays Wisconsin on Sept. 10 in Madison, Ward will have the opportunity almost immediately to gain national attention.
