Titans QB Will Levis Is Not Happy With The Turf Field: “Grass is healthier”

To begin his NFL career, Will Levis will have a steep uphill struggle. Although he was predicted to go in the top five, the Tennessee Titans selected him in the second round (33rd overall) of the 2023 NFL draft.

With the theory that injuries are less frequent on natural grass fields than on artificial turf ones, the NFLPA and players have recently pushed teams to switch to them.

The league has denied that there is a difference in injury rates between the two in response to this demand, but the need for natural grass grounds hasn’t subsided.

As for the Titans — a team that has been riddled with injuries in recent years despite using a natural grass field — they are going in the opposite direction of the players’ wishes, with the team switching to artificial turf in 2023.

In order to discuss the ongoing argument between turf and grass, Levis was joined by George Kittle, David Bakhtiari, sports performance expert Jeremy Holt, and fellow rookie Bryan Bresee. To argue against more synthetic playing fields, all five panelists joined forces with The Players’ Tribune and Pennington Lawn.

Will Levis argued for NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell that grass surfaces should gradually replace artificial turf:

“When I initially began playing football, at the age of 5 or 6, I only played on that surface. Growing up, I used only grass to play on. That’s when I built that confidence. Naturally, I feel much more at ease when playing on grassy surfaces.”

“The primary concern is the health and safety of the players. The league’s main priority is to keep their players healthy, and looking at the statistics, I’m a numbers guy; numbers don’t lie. Grass is more healthy. Your players are your most valuable assets, thus you want to always have access to them.”

Whatever happens in the long run, Levis’ longtime ambition of hearing his name shouted was realized. He is already working to transform the league and the sport, despite the fact that he has not even played on an NFL field.
