“Tired of Watching Y’all Lose”: Kobe Bryant Had Enough Of US Basketball’s Struggles as he Turned Them From a Losing Team to the Redeem Team

At the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, the American men’s national basketball team took home the gold medal. The 2008 team’s captain was picked as Kobe Bryant, while Mike Krzyzewski was named head coach. The team was given the moniker “Redeem Team,” a play on the alternate moniker for the illustrious 1992 squad, which was the “Dream Team,” and a nod to the fact that the United States only managed bronze medal finishes at the 2004 Summer Olympics and the 2006 FIBA World Championship.

Kobe already believed he couldn’t be a team leader and needed a co-star to assist him. Bryant set the example for his colleagues in the early days of Team USA getting together for practise. Kobe was able to show that he could not only get along with other alphas but also lead them and help them become the greatest versions of themselves despite not having tight ties with them like his other teammates did.
