Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy Led TGL Golf League Postponed Due To Roof Collapse

The launch of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s indoor golf league, TGL, has been pushed back one year, to the beginning of 2025, the group said on Monday.

Tiger Woods & Rory McIlroy Led TGL Golf League Postponed Due To Roof Collapse

The six-team league was scheduled to make its ESPN debut on January 9 and conclude the season in time for the April Masters. The six clubs’ ownership had been revealed, and players were completing their rosters. And then last week’s power outage left the league with nowhere to play.

The SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens suffered damage to its air-supported dome component when the temporary power supply and backup systems failed on November 14. This resulted in the dome deflating.

The choice was made in response to last week’s roof collapse at the new stadium that would have housed TGL contests. The league said that a dome structure deflated as a result of a power system failure during the SoFi Center’s construction in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

According to TGL, the mishap did not result in any injuries or harm to the golf simulators or other equipment used by the league. However, after consulting with important partners, TGL postponed the season, which was scheduled to begin in January.

The actual bullets from 50 yards or closer are played to a high-tech green complex that spins on a turntable to provide varied shots, while the longer shots are struck onto a screen that is 20 times larger than a typical simulator.

Woods plays and owns a portion of Jupiter Links. McIlroy, Tyrrell Hatton, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott are on Boston Commons. There are more teams in Atlanta, New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Los Angeles that have influential ownership groups.

“The postponement brings mixed feelings of disappointment and excitement,” McIlroy said. “Above all, we are happy that no one was injured. Given the circumstances, while the delay is disappointing, the postponement will allow us to regroup, refocus and return stronger.”

The TMRW Sports entertainment and media firm was created by Woods, McIlroy, and former NBC Golf Channel executive Mike McCarley.

Among its roster of players are some of the world’s top golfers. It’s unknown how player involvement would be impacted by the revised schedule.

A number of well-known club owners and investors have also expressed interest in the league, including tech pioneer Alexis Ohanian, Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, tech hedge funder Steve Cohen, Serena and Venus Williams, and Fenway Sports Group.

Pro football players Tony Romo and Josh Allen, women’s soccer star Alex Morgan, musician Justin Timberlake, race car driver Lewis Hamilton, and basketball legend Stephen Curry are among the other investors in the league.

ESPN declared that it is completely in favor of delaying the 2024 season.

“We have believed in them and their vision from the beginning, and that has not changed. The additional time to plan, test and rehearse will only make it better, said Rosalyn Durant, executive vice president, programming and acquisitions at ESPN.
