The Los Angeles Rams entered the draft without a pick in the fourth round, which they thought would be an excellent place to choose a quarterback. They therefore moved back and gained a fourth-round pick when they started the clock at pick No. 69 overall.

With the 128th choice in the draft, they got exactly what they wanted, selecting Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett. The Rams adored Bennett in this class, and Les Snead even named him as his favorite quarterback in the draft, which surprised several pundits and fans.

Sean McVay loves the skill set Bennett brings to the Rams’ quarterback room even if he won’t get the opportunity to start right away.

Stetson Bennett, a former quarterback for the Georgia Bulldogs who was selected by Los Angeles in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft (No. 128 overall), was mentioned by McVay as one of his “pleased” rookies during this week’s Rams mandatory minicamp.

“I’ve been really pleased with him,” McVay said according to Yahoo! Sports. “The one thing that stands out is when the ball is in Stetson’s hands, the game makes sense to him. He’s got a good feel for being able to get through progressions quickly. He can feel space on the back end as it relates to different coverage counters that he’s seen, but he feels open areas and gets through things quickly. I love the athleticism but there’s a lot of work to be done. He stays nice and steady, doesn’t get too high or low, and he’s fun to be around.”

Bennett would have been considered a marginal first-round talent if he had been four years younger and five inches taller. However, he is older and smaller than most quarterbacks in the draft at age 25 and at 5-foot-11.

The Rams aren’t concerned about those two alleged flaws in his scouting report because they likely see him as a player who is ready to start as a No. 2 option right away and doesn’t require much coaching. Bennett will receive tight coaching from McVay, QBs coach Zac Robinson, and Matthew Stafford as he strives to become an even greater quarterback than he already is.

Along with McVay, veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford, a fellow Georgia product who is in his third season with the Rams, has also been impressed by the 25-year-old Bennett.

“He’s done a great job,” Stafford said. “Though it’s a lot for a young guy to process and a lot to learn he’s done a great job. He’s got great athleticism, throws the ball well, and does a lot of things really well. I’m happy for him.”
