“This Guy’s Not Just Falling When I Hit Him”- Israel Adesanya Breaks Down an Important Lesson Khamzat Chimaev Learnt Against Gilbert Burns
Khamzat Chimaev established himself as an elite fighter with a hard-fought win over Gilbert Burns. There were a lot of unanswered questions around Chimaev since he was relatively new in the promotion and had not faced a real elite fighter up until he faced Burns.
However, on that night, Chimaev all but proved that he has all the required skills to make him not only a world-class fighter, but also a champion in the UFC. The fight also taught Chimaev a few invaluable lessons that, if absorbed and rectified properly, will only make him more dangerous.
Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, who has his own YouTube channel, recently shared his thoughts on Chimaev’s win. He said, “Look at Khamzat recently. You know he had to dig deep into himself and realize, oh sh*, it’s not going my way. Oh, this guy’s not just falling when I hit him. Sh*. And you have to get. That’s that fatigue, the mindset, and I’ve talked about that in the past as well. I was saying without, I think I said in the reaction video…Yeah, mindset.”
Following the win, Chimaev has now put himself within reach of a title shot. The common consensus is that Chimaev would need to secure another win probably against Covington to land himself a title shot against Usman.

Israel Adesanya makes an accurate assessment of Khamzat Chimaev’s hard-fought win
After the win, Chimaev was extremely critical of his performance. The Swede admitted to fighting emotionally and not following the game plan set by his coach. ‘Borz’ admitted that he wanted to prove a point by knocking out Burns and, therefore, decided to go for an all-out brawl.
In interviews after the fight, Chimaev’s coach also shared the same views as his fighter. However, he insisted that such fights build character, and the mistakes made by Khamzat Chimaev in this fight will only humble him and teach him to follow a game plan next time onwards.
