‘They’re Both Lefties’- Robbie Lawler Reveals He Doesn’t Have to ‘Switch Too Much’ From His Nick Diaz Fight When Training for Bryan Barberena Fight

UFC veteran Robbie Lawler spoke to MMA Junkie in a recent interview as his fight against Bryan Barberena inches closer. It was recently revealed that Lawler will be fighting Barberena on the prelims of UFC 276 after 20 years of being a main card fighter.

‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler was surprised by the decision as he’s always been an action fighter who brings forth nothing but chaos at every step of the way. However, given that he’s such a season veteran of the game, it’s safe to say that he’s not about to let his placement on the card affect his overall performance on the night.

Robbie Lawler looks ahead at his scrap with Bryan Barberena

‘Ruthless’ recently picked up a TKO victory over fellow aging legend Nick Diaz and he drew parallels from his fight with Nick Diaz when thinking about Barberena. He believes his preparation for the Nick Diaz fight is bound to pay dividends in a major way when he laces up the gloves against Barberena.

“I mean, obviously it’s totally different. They’re both lefties, which is nice. (I) just trained for a leftie in Nick, and Bryan’s a leftie. It’s a decent transition. I don’t have to switch too much up. But it’s all about staying focused and being a professional and trying to bring that same energy to a fight against Bryan. … There’s definitely no back story, but Bryan comes to fight, and that’s a pretty good story.”

“I come to fight, and the fans are going to get what they love: two guys going out there looking for finishes standing up. You never know what’s going to happen. Maybe he’ll wrestle, but we’ll see. I’m excited to go out there and showcase my skills.”[h/t mmajunkie.com]

Robbie Lawler’s comments about the fight clearly indicate that he’s fired up to prove the UFC wrong for placing him on the prelims. He believes that he’s still got a lot left in the tank and given the way he’s able to stay in a fight no matter the adversity, it’s certainly hard to argue against that.
