The Highest & Lowest Scoring NFL Games Of All Times
Every extreme has been present in the game since the NFL’s founding in 1920. Games are notable for many trips to the end zone and the inability to generate any offence due to factors like mismatches and weather.
The league’s top and lowest-scoring games are included in this list, along with relevant details about each.
Highest Scoring NFL Game-
New York Giants vs. New Orleans Saints, 2015
Total Points Scored: 101
Score: 49-52
In a midseason game in 2015, Eli Manning and Drew Brees passed the ball to opposite offences. Together, the two completed 91 throws for 13 touchdowns.
New York was down early but came back to score 21 points in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 49 with 31 seconds remaining. Brees put the home team in position for a field goal attempt, which Kai Forbath made from 50 yards out with no time left to spare to give the Saints the victory.
Brees completed his passes for 501 yards. Odell Beckham Jr. hauled in three touchdowns for the Giants.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Los Angeles Rams, 2018
Total Points Scored: 105
Score: 54-51
In this barn-burner in Los Angeles, Patrick Mahomes and Jared Goff led rival offences for two of the NFL’s top teams. Both of them threw for more than 400 yards, but Goff and the Rams prevailed.
Goff distributed the ball well for 31 completions without throwing an interception. On defence, Los Angeles benefited from three interceptions.
Cleveland Browns vs. Cincinnati Bengals, 2004
Total Points Scored: 106
Score: 48-58
In a game with 66 second-half points, Cincinnati defeated Cleveland in a battle of too much orange on the field.
A 31-yard interception return by Deltha O’Neal gave the Bengals their lone non-offensive touchdown of the game at the 10:01 mark of the fourth quarter when they trailed by four points.
While Bengals running back Rudi Johnson ran for 202 yards and two scores, Browns quarterback Kelly Holcomb threw for 413 yards and five touchdowns.

New York Giants vs. Washington at Redskins, 1966
Total Points Scored: 113
Score: 72-41
The only rout on the list occurred in the nation’s capital when Washington defeated New York in the highest-scoring game in NFL history.
No Redskins offensive player posted astonishing stats besides receiver Charley Taylor (six catches for 124 yards and two scores). Instead, the Giants’ six mistakes, including their five interceptions, gave Washington numerous opportunities to score.
New York had an abysmal season, finishing with a 1-12-1 record. However, no team smacked “Big Blue” as hard as the Redskins did on November 27, 1966.

Lowest Scoring NFL Game
Miami Dolphins vs. Pitsburgh Steelers, 2007
Total Points Scored: 3
Score: 0-3
57,704 spectators flocked to Heinz Field on a chilly Monday night to watch both offences throw up zeros until Pittsburgh kicker Jeff Reed’s 24-yard field goal gave the Steelers the lead with a few seconds left on the clock. No receiver or rushing back gained more than 90 yards in the game, which had a combined total of less than 400 yards for both sides.

New York Jets vs. Washington Redskins, 1993
Total Points Scored: 3
Score: 3-0
On December 11 at Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, a strong Jets squad held off a weak Redskins group thanks to a first-quarter field goal. Despite having the upper hand in terms of stats, New York was unable to find the end zone. Washington only managed 150 yards of total offence on the day, rushing the ball 15 times for just 39 yards.

Miami Dolphins vs. New England Patriots, 1982
Total Points Scored: 3
Score: 0-3
In this game, which is fondly referred to as the Snowplow Game, Patriots head coach Ron Meyer called for the driver of the snowplough to clear a place so Miami could set up John Smith’s 33-yard field goal as the game’s last blow.
Don Shula, the head coach of the Miami Dolphins, complained about the crucial action to commissioner Pete Rozelle. Rozelle acknowledged that what occurred was unjust, but she wouldn’t alter the outcome of the game.

Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 1979
Total Points Scored: 3
Score: 0-3
The Monsoon game at Tampa Bay, which also had infamously bad weather, resulted in seven fumbles. Notably, there were just five turnovers. There were 13 passes attempted by each sides, totalling 67 passing yards. In the fourth quarter, Neil O’Donoghue kicked a 19-yard field goal for the Buccaneers, giving them the victory.
Atlanta Falcons vs. Buffalo Bills, 1977
Total Points Scored: 3
Score: 0-3
Surprisingly, in two of the NFL’s lowest-scoring contests, Neil O’Donoghue kicked the game-winning field goal. He made a 30-yard field goal in the second quarter to give Buffalo the victory over Atlanta and record the game’s lone touchdown. Only 17 of their combined 50 pass attempts were completed by quarterbacks Scott Hunter of Atlanta and Joe Ferguson of Buffalo, who threw for 95 and 96 yards, respectively.
