The Fast Ball That Realigned Kyle Farmer’s Teeth Has Now Put Him On A Soup Diet

On Wednesday, Lucas Giolito of the Chicago White Sox delivered a 92 mph pitch that struck Minnesota Twins shortstop Kyle Farmer in the face. Farmer sustained a jaw injury after being slammed to the ground by the hit in the fourth inning.

Giolito looked at the hit and hid his face in despair. Along with Minnesota’s training staff, the Twins manager, Rocco Baldelli, hurried out to Farmer.

After lying face down for a while as the Twins attended to him, Kyle Farmer carefully stood up and made his way to the dugout with his head down and a towel pushed over his face.

Reporters were informed by Twins manager Rocco Baldelli that Kyle Farmer will require dental surgery in order to straighten his four bottom teeth and close the wounds on his lower lip. He did not, however, sustain any fractures.

“Thank god we got the news that was better than what we were expecting. It looks like he is going to have a procedure today to realign his teeth and to fix a major laceration of the lower jaw. It doesn’t appear that there’s actually a fracture or fractures, which is probably some sort of miracle, if that’s the case.”

Until further notice, Farmer will only consume liquids and “no solid food,” according to Twins manager Rocco Baldelli.

“I don’t anticipate there being a timeline any time soon,” Baldelli told reporters. “We may have a general rough idea and then there’s the build back once he heals up. He’s not going to be eating solid food for at least a little while, things like that that we’re going to have to work through.”

Farmer didn’t break any bones, but the high and in fastball forced him to have jaw surgery to straighten his teeth. The scar will probably still be visible because it is important, concluded Baldelli. “His bottom four teeth were pushed in.”
