The Biggest Questions for Every AFC Team as Training Camps Begin: NFL Fantasy Football Speculations

In training camp, it takes a while for any significant piece of news to be revealed that’s worth sharing. For the most part, guys are reporting, doing their physicals, and just generally getting settled before practices begin next week. However, managers have to answer certain calls, and have to deal with the possibilities of certain situations. With the season upcoming and fantasy football hopefuls looking at prospects, here’s a list of the biggest questions for every AFC team as training camps begin:

Baltimore Ravens – Will J.K. Dobbins be a star?

There’s plenty of upside in an offense that ranked first and seventh in scoring in consecutive seasons before struggling with injuries a year ago, but Dobbins’ status for Week 1 is more of a question than we initially thought. Dobbins rushed for 7 touchdowns in 6 games when he last played, but that was back in 2020. He might have to compete with Mike Davis and Gus Edwards to get into a comfortable position back on his team.

Buffalo Bills – Will anyone else step up?

Among the skill positions, there haven’t been many people that have stepped up consistently besides Stefon Diggs at WR1. Every year in Josh Allen’s career, running back points have been low. Devin Singletary and James Cook are also competing with each other, and Gabriel Davis has shown out in the playoffs last season, but that’s besides it.

Cincinnati Bengals – Should they be a pass-first offense?

For Joe Burrow’s stats to improve and be a lock for one of the first quarterbacks to be selected, he needs to pass more aggressively. In his last 4 playoffs games, he only averaged 35.5 pass attempts. Given his limited running ability, he needs to start passing more to see more results as well.

Cleveland Browns – Will Deshaun Watson play?

Watson’s been surrounded by controversy due to numerous sexual misconduct allegations, but it’s unclear so far if the NFL will hand him a suspension. Besides the matters that will follow if he’s suspended, players like Amari Cooper won’t perform as well in Watsons’ absence. The Browns offense overall is just something to avoid until there’s more clarity about the teams’ situation.

Denver Broncos – What is the ceiling for this offense?

There’s a lot of expectations with this team, because while there are good players throughout, they will have to compete with each other to prove the hierarchy of RB and WR. Javonte Williams has to compete with Melvin Gordon, and Jerry Jeudy has to compete with Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick, and Albert Okwuegbunam. Of course, Russell Wilson is also a QB to look out for, although his last season with the Seahawks was lackluster.

Houston Texans – Will Brandin Cooks have a breakout teammate?

Nobody else on this offense had more than 613 total yards last season. There’s room for other players to be main contributors, but based on obstacles like Nico Collins not showing out and John Metchie III missing the season due to a cancer diagnosis, it’ll be hard to do.

Indianapolis Colts – Will Jonathan Taylor and Michael Pittman have competition?

Taylor and Pittman are the no.1 RB and WR on their team, respectively, but the question is if anybody else is capable of generating more points than them. Nyheim Hines and Alec Pierce are the only contenders, but unless there’s great reception from training camp, there’s no reason to draft them in the top 100.

Jacksonville Jaguars – Do they have enough help?

The jaguars signed many players during free agency like Brandon Scherff and Christian Kirk, but it’s hard to tell if the overall offense will be good. Travis Etienne might step up coming off of a broken foot, or James Robinson can come off pf his Achilles injury in time to contribute. Trevor Lawrence needs to step up as well in order for the rest of the offense to be good picks.

Kansas City Chiefs – Who will replace Tyreek Hill?

The team lost a great WR in Hill as he was traded to the Miami Dolphins. Juju Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scalding, and Skyy Moore can combine to provide the offense in the absence of Hill, but it’s hard to tell if they’ll be able to replace and provide the same contributions as Hill did for the Chiefs.

Las Vegas Raiders – How will Davante Adams do?

Derek Carr is a good quarterback, but nowhere on the level of Aaron Rodgers. The Raiders had more pass-attempts than the Packers last season, so if they can keep that up, and Adams can keep a high target share, then he’s the WR to pick.

Los Angeles Chargers – Will anyone be a breakout player?

Austin Ekeler, Keenan Allen, and Mike Williams were the only significant point contributors coming out of last season, and it’s hard to tell if any other player on the team can match what they’ve done, as nobody else has broken 600 total yards. Chasing any upside with other players is going to be a bit risky despite this team having one of the best offenses in the NFL.

Miami Dolphins – Will the most be brought out of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle?

Tua Tagovailoa is unproven as a deep passer, and he needs to be one in order to get the best out of Hill and Waddle. Mike Gesicki is also a fast TE, and it would be best to be able to throw a deep pass to such a player. Hill and Waddle are both top WRs, but it’s hard to tell how much they should be used because of Tua’s uncertainty.

New England Patriots – Will Damien Harris remain the team’s No.1 RB?

Harris scored at least one touchdown in all games except 5 of them last season, which isn’t a bad amount. The question is, will that type of success, or possibly better results, appear in the coming season. He’s competing with Rhamondre Stevenson, who has good upside as well.

New York Jets – Can Zach Wilson step it up?

Jets took a big gamble to rebuild their franchise around a new QB in Wilson after trading Sam Darnold to the Carolina Panthers. However, he hasn’t quite shown out yet. Expectations are high for this player, as the team has solid players at the skill positions. However, his first season has seen outplays from other QBs, which is not a good sign.

Pittsburgh Steelers – How will Kenny Pickett change the offense?

The combination of Michael Trubisky and Pickett might make the Steelers offense more functional as a whole, but it’s unclear how much they’ll stand out. Ben Roethlisberger’s last 2 seasons were bad on his end but was able to create higher target shares for Diontae Johnson and Najee Harris.

Tennessee Titans – How risky is Derrick Henry?

When Henry’s healthy, he’s a beast. However, coming off of a broken foot, he was unable to play for three seasons, and lack of pass catching production means he typically needs consistent carry totals in the 20-30 range. If he gets the ball less, his value as a pick goes down tremendously.
