“That’s a Lot of Time for It to Get Personal”- Former UFC Champion Details How a Season of ‘TUF’ Can Lead to a Fight Between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson
Tony Ferguson vs Khabib Nurmagomedov is one fight that UFC fans will forever lament over. The fight between ‘The Eagle’ and ‘El Cucuy’ was poised to be a fight for the ages between two of the best and most dominant lightweights the promotion had ever seen. However, a host of freakish injuries and circumstances meant that the fight between the two never took place despite being scheduled five times.
Recently, after his loss against Michael Chandler, Ferguson stated that he would like to coach a season of The Ultimate Fighter against Khabib Nurmagomedov. This idea was well-received by ‘The Eagle’ as well. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, former middleweight champion Michael Bisping explained why a season of ‘TUF’ between the two could lead to a fight down the line.
He said, “You’re around these people a lot. These opponents, your foes, your enemies, your rivals. You’re around them all the time, almost 24-7 for six to eight weeks. That’s a lot of time for it to get personal, that’s a lot of times for things to brew, to fester.”
‘The Count’ continued, “To make you want to beat the living s**t out of him and then when the fight offer comes through… the one that got away might just come back…Khabib ‘The Eagle’ Nurmagomedov. Tony Ferguson ‘El Cucuy’, looks like they are gonna coach a season of the Ultimate Fighter… if they coach The Ultimate Fighter then there is a very good chance that they’re gonna fight.”
Michael Bisping spot on in his assessment of the situation between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson?
Khabib Nurmagomedov has been adamant that he will not return to action once again. His reasons for the same are extremely personal.
Also, unlike most fighters who retire and comeback to fight, ‘The Eagle’ is not hurting for money and will not make a comeback even if he was offered a ludicrous amount of money.
