Given that there is always a group of detractors and doubters searching for the smallest of opportunities to pick apart, it wouldn’t be incorrect to name the 6 feet 9 inches forward one of the most divisive athletes in American sports history. James, though, never let any of the outside noise bother him.
Irving would discuss how James influenced him as well after having seen this firsthand when participating in the ‘I AM ATHLETE’ Podcast.
“Me learning from him (LeBron) helped us accelerate my understanding for the game that we’re in the business. I’m watching him deal with it in front of the camera, off the camera being LeBron James, that comes with its own responsibility. So not only was he teaching me off the court, but on court, this man is a savant. He’s a genius in terms of how he takes care of his body, how he treats his body, what he does every single day to be able to be at the top,” revealed Irving.
“People want to see that man (LeBron) fail every minute of the day,” he added.
One of the most challenging pairings in NBA history is LeBron James’ connection with Kyrie Irving. Between 2014 and 2017, they participated in three NBA seasons together. LeBron James’ rumored return to the Cleveland Cavaliers, a franchise he had left for the Miami Heat back in 2010, was the catalyst for everything.
Kyrie Irving on returning to Cleveland: "The amount of pressure I was putting on myself coming in after the prodigal son, LeBron James, leaves, and I had to take on the ropes after that. Who knows if I was ever going to live up to that billing. But I put that pressure on myself.” pic.twitter.com/ytnF3Ca1ci
