“That Goes Without Saying”- Draymond Green Reveals his Relationship With Davis and LeBron James
Anthony Davis and LeBron starred in Los Angeles Lakers’ 103-100 win over rivals Golden State Warriors. The win guides Lakers to the Western Conference playoffs with a play-in win over Draymond Green’s Warriors. LeBron’s game-winning shot with 58 seconds on the clock was enough for the defending champions to defeat conference rivals Golden State. The Lakers face Phoenix Suns in the playoffs on Sunday. Green’s teammate Curry scored 37 points but it just wasn’t enough for the Warriors to register a win against the defending champions. Golden State Warriors now need to beat Memphis Grizzlies to advance.
Despite playing against on many occasions, Green is friends with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. If you’re lucky, you might catch Green hanging out with James in the offseason. ESPN’s journalist Rachel Nicols interviewed Draymond Green ahead of the Warriors’ loss at the hands of the Lakers. In the virtual interview, she asked Green about his generally nice affinity with Lakers’ hotshots Anthony Davis and LeBron James. Green replied that they aren’t talking about the impending game, and when it’s go-time, he will not be kept down.
When asked about his relationship off the court with Anthony Davis and LeBron James, Green said, “There hasn’t been any extra-curricular trash talking there but one thing you do know that’s one of those unspoken things. Next time we’re together the losers definitely picking up that time and providing the vino. That goes without saying.”
“Everyone always says, ‘Oh man, why are they, friends? That sucks,'” Green added. “[But] that’s what makes it fun for us, to be able to go out there and destroy your friend, destroy your brother. When you go in there, they’re trying to take your head off. When they come in our lane, we’re trying to take their heads off. That’s what it boils down to.”
Friendships between players from different teams are nothing new in NBA. In fact, these close relationships help in performing even better when they play against each other. There’s no harm in being friends with your opponents. What Green said is right in some sense.
After losing out the playoffs spots to the Lakers, Green and his team now focus on their next fixture against Memphis. A win would ensure their progress to the next stage of the championship.
An incident happened between Draymond Green and James in the game. LeBron had to receive treatment on the sidelines after it appeared that he was poked in the eye by Draymond Green with just two minutes remaining on the clock.
“I was literally seeing three rims out there,” James, 36, said.
James was given eye drops as a treatment on the sidelines but he admitted that he was unable to focus on taking a shot.
“I just shot at the middle rim and I was able to, with the grace from the man above, knock it down,” James said.
Lakers star Anthony Davis joked afterwards that the Lakers “might need to poke LeBron in his eye a lot more to hit shots like that”.
