‘Texas Appeals Court’ Revives Sexual Assault Lawsuit Against Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones

A Texas appeals court has reinstated a sexual assault complaint against Jerry Jones, the owner of the Dallas Cowboys, that was previously rejected in 2020.

Dallas Morning News reports that the lawsuit will now restart and perhaps even go to trial.

The claimed event allegedly occurred on September 16, 2018, at AT&T Stadium, the Dallas Cowboys’ home stadium on the day of their NFL matchup with the New York Giants.

The district court in Dallas County was served with the personal injury lawsuit stemming from an alleged event in 2018. Yet according to The Dallas Morning News, it was rejected last year.

On September 16, 2018, the event allegedly took place at AT&T Stadium. According to the report, Jones “forcibly grabbed her without her consent and kissed her on the mouth.”

Not only was Jones the target of the lawsuit, but also the Dallas Cowboys franchise. In it, Jane Doe was first mentioned as the victim. But afterwards, it was altered and is now known by the initials “J.G.”

The encounter caused her “extreme emotional distress” and “psychological pain and suffering,” according to her lawsuit. Moreover, she stated that the alleged assault had cost her money in medical expenditures.

Jones called the accusations “malicious and hurtful” in a court-filed rebuttal to them.

As the court requested J.G. to disclose further details regarding the event, including the area where it occurred, the judge found she had disobeyed a special exemptions ruling and the case was dismissed with prejudice. She claimed that incident happened in the Tom Landry Lounge of the stadium.

A year later, an appeal court made the decision to reinstate the dismissal. In response to the court’s exceptional exceptions order, the plaintiff “made a good faith endeavour to revise her pleadings,” the court stated in its ruling. They came to the conclusion that the “trial court misused its discretion in rejecting appellant’s claims” because of this.

Thomas Daniel Bowers, the woman’s lawyer, spoke to the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday and said the following: We were confident that we would prevail since the law was on our side.

The fact that a victim will ultimately have her day in court is crucial.

Since 1989, Jones has been the Dallas Cowboys’ owner. He paid $150 million for the brand and is now reportedly worth $13.6 billion.

During his ownership, they had three Super Bowl victories: in 1993, 1994, and 1996.

In another ongoing legal dispute involving Jones, the court has mandated that he undergo a paternity test in order to determine whether he is the biological father of a 26-year-old woman.
