Texans QB CJ Stroud Believes His Faith Is What Gets Him Through Thick And Thin

Texans QB CJ Stroud Believes His Faith Is What Gets Him Through Thick And Thin

The criticism of Stroud’s beliefs from the outside seemed to have no effect on him. After Saturday’s defeat to the Baltimore Ravens, he began his postgame news conference by giving thanks to God. Next, he was questioned about turning to his religion during difficult times.

He began with a stirring statement, emphasizing that his message wasn’t about him but rather about God. He then mentioned how many NFL players and coaches have contacted him to express their gratitude for his virtually constant expression of faith.

“It’s what I lean on through thick and thin,” Stroud told reporters. “I know I’m upset right now, but I’m really just blessed looking back on this year, this opportunity we had today to play in front of millions of people. I’m just really grateful to God for all the opportunities He’s blessed me with.

“I’m just gonna lean on Him and I know that this isn’t the end for me. It’s a lot of more football for me to play, and I’m just excited for that. And I’m super blessed with the guys who I lined up with every week this year. And I’m just really thankful to God on how much he’s brought me from – I can go all the way to when I was a kid to college to Week 1 to now. I’ve grown as a person and as a man of God in a lot of different ways. I’m just really blessed for that.”

Days before the playoff game, Stroud’s religion was questioned when a tape from the “Sunday Night Football” X report was released, excluding the quarterback’s remarks about Jesus Christ. Instead of displaying the comments, Stroud’s affection for Houston was highlighted in the piece.

A video from the “Sunday Night Football” X report that didn’t include the quarterback’s comments about Jesus Christ was leaked a few days prior to the playoff game, raising doubts about Stroud’s faith. Stroud’s love for Houston was emphasized in the article rather than the remarks.
