Texans Owner Ignored Deshaun Watson During Pregame

For the first time in 700 days, Deshaun Watson is back on an NFL field, and the situation is unpleasant.

The three-time Pro Bowler, who was the subject of sexual misconduct allegations that resulted in him missing the whole 2021 season and serving an 11-game ban this year, is making his Cleveland Browns debut here at NRG Stadium.

but not before sparring with his former employer.

The former Texans star QB and Houston owner Cal McNair met before the game.

Texans Owner Ignored Deshaun Watson During Pregame

Deshaun Watson’s reception upon returning to Houston for his first game in 700 days wasn’t just hostile from the crowd.
Prior to kickoff, Watson went over to the Texan’s ownership and shook hands with Cal McNair. However, when Watson attempted to shake hands with Hannah McNair, she turned her back on him.

Hannah McNair, the owner of the Texans, had no interest in welcoming Deshaun Watson back to Houston on Sunday. He received a very clear cold shoulder from her.

In his first five seasons in the NFL, Watson, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, played for the Texans and made it to three Pro Bowls. His time in Houston came to an abrupt end, though, and this past offseason he was traded to Cleveland.

More than 20 female massage therapists have filed lawsuits against Watson for sexual harassment and assault since 2021. The 27-year-old has settled 20 different allegations of sexual misconduct but continues to deny any wrongdoing.

Deshaun Watson’s off-field troubles are well known, but before those legal battles were made public, the player’s relationship with the Texan’s ownership deteriorated to the point where Watson demanded a trade out of Houston and vowed never to play for Cal McNair again.

The Texans did not allow Watson to play any games in 2021 because of the ongoing legal proceedings. In March 2022, they later sent him to the Browns.

Watson was suspended by the NFL for the first eleven games of his debut season in Ohio, despite his continued insistence on his innocence. He returned to the field of play for the first time in more than 18 months earlier this week after that suspension was lifted.
