Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova ‘Deeply Honored’ by Bill Russell Comparisons

Bill Russell, a professional basketball player from the United States, died at the age of 88. During his time playing for the Boston Celtics, Russell amassed a record 11 NBA championships and five MVP trophies. In 1956, Russell led the American national team to an Olympic gold medal.

The Celtics legend had his number 6 jersey retired by the Boston Celtics after being inducted into the NBA hall of fame in 1975 as a player and in 2021 as a coach. Bill Russell passed away yesterday, and many sportsmen and well-known figures, such as Martina Navratilova, paid their respects on social media. It was a devastating blow for admirers all across the world.

The daughter of the former NBA star recently compared her father to the legendary Navratilova on social media. When she realized this, Navratilova expressed sincere humility by thanking Russell’s daughter.

Martina Navratilova shows humility after Bill Russell comparisons

Karen Russell, the late Bill Russell’s daughter, recently contrasted Navratilova’s remarks with those of her father.

Karen tweeted: “My friend @Martina reminds me of Daddy when she does color on tennis: informative, warm, and very funny.“

Navratilova replied: “Thank you- I am deeply honored, especially today…”

Like Russell, Navratilova has earned recognition as one of, if not the greatest, tennis player in history. Additionally, she has a terrific tennis record. She has won 41 Grand Slam championships in doubles and mixed doubles competitions in addition to her 18 Grand Slam singles victories, which has led many in the tennis community to consider her the greatest all-around player of all time.
