TE Cade Stover Has A Unique Workout Style & Rich Eisen Loves It Absolutely

There were two things that fans who watched the NFL Scouting Combine on Friday night realized. First, Cade Stover’s hands can get stronger by massaging a cow. Furthermore, “Massaging the Leather” seems like a fantastic name for a fantasy football squad.

TE Cade Stover Has A Unique Workout Style & Rich Eisen Loves It Absolutely

Rich Eisen of NFL Network kicked things off with an odd conversation with reporter Charles Davis. Eisen brought up a video that tight end Cade Stover of Ohio State had shared on social media, in which he was seen massaging a cow.

Eisen asked Charles Davis if he had the solution to what the Ohio State tight end was doing in a TikTok that was shared by Stover during a piece that aired on Friday. Stover was shown massaging a cow with both hands.

“I’ve never set anyone up like this in my quarter century of doing this,” Eisen said. “Charles, why was this guy on the screen here, Cade Stover, massaging a cow? Do you have the answer?”

“Gentlemen, I was actually correct in my assessment: he says he’s doing it to strengthen his hands,” Davis said. “He looked me dead in the eye and he said, ‘I’m massaging the leather.’ There you go, guys”

Eisen then replied that “massaging the leather” would be his fantasy football name — “and I have my avatar,” he added.

“I hope to be a role model for farmers,” Stover said in a September story published on the Ohio State College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences website. “It’s not very often that you see someone that does play football at a higher level and has (a farming) background.

He had 41 catches for 576 yards and five touchdowns in 2023, helping the Buckeyes to an 11-1 record in the regular season. He had five receptions for 98 yards in the season opener and three more receptions for 42 yards in a Nov. 25 loss to Michigan, which went on to win the College Football Playoff championship.

“The work ethic from the farm translates tremendously to what I do on a football field on a day-to-day basis out there,” Stover said in a video on the Ohio Beef Council website. “The harder you work and the more stuff you put into, that’s what you’re going to get out of it. And I think that the farm really shows you that.”

How good is Cade Stover?

Although Stover was an eager and active blocker, his performance in that area has been questioned. The tight end with the run-block grade, out of 69 with at least 300 snaps, was rated 41st. Pass-block grade was 19th out of 20.
