Tattnall County High School In Georgia Suspends Their Head Football Coach

Isaac Ferrell will continue to work as a teacher at Tattnall County High School, but he will no longer coach the football team, according to a statement sent to WSB by Kristen Waters, the superintendent of Tattnall County Schools. The team’s trip to the season’s last game on November 3 was the cause of the incident, according to Waters, which led to the decision.

On October 23, Ferrell hosted the baptism. Twenty players made the decision to become believers and take part in the baptism. Videos from the baptism were uploaded by Ferrell on his Facebook page. Later on, he removed the posts.

Gary Few, a clergyman, provided assistance with the occasion. He told the pupils, “I baptize you now, my brother, in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”

A few weeks after receiving backlash for baptizing several of his players on school property, a Georgia high school football coach was dismissed.

This week, Superintendent Kristen Waters announced that the coach’s termination from Tattnall County High School was due to an incident that occurred during a game on November 3, not the baptism. She didn’t elaborate further.

“The safety and security of our students is paramount to Tattnall County Board of Education,” Waters said in a statement to NBC affiliate WSAV of Savannah. “Based on the outcome of an investigation into an incident that occurred Friday night, November 3rd while traveling after the football game, the District decided that it would seek a Head football coach that aligned with the best interests of the students.”

“As to any other allegations, the District does not comment during ongoing investigations,” the statement said.

Up until the last several decades, faith and sports, especially football, have been closely related. Despite Ferrell’s claim that he was not fired as coach over the baptism, the superintendent of the school faced criticism for his choice to hold the ceremony, which eventually came to her notice.

The “state/church watchdog” Freedom from faith Foundation took issue with Ferrell’s actions, charging the coach with imposing his faith on his players.
