Take A Look At Highest Scoring Teams In NFL History

The Miami Dolphins are the newest members of the elite 70-point club. The Dolphins became only the third team in NFL history to score 70 points or more in a regular-season game on Sunday when they trounced the Broncos 70-20.

Of course, Peyton Manning led that offence and had a historic campaign to win his fifth and final NFL MVP award. Manning established new NFL marks in both yardage and touchdowns while playing all 16 games of the regular season.

Washington set the record in 1966 with 72 points in a game. With about a minute left, the Dolphins faced a fourth-and-14 from the Broncos 26-yard line and had the opportunity to try a potentially game-changing field goal, but head coach Mike McDaniel decided to have the team take a knee instead of trying to break the record.

With a 43-point victory over the Baltimore Colts in 1950, the Los Angeles Rams set the previous mark of 70 points, which was surpassed by that.

Throwing for 145 yards and three touchdowns, including two to fellow Hall of Famer Charley Taylor, was Washington quarterback Sonny Jurgensen. Two of Washington’s four running scores that day came from A.D. Whitfield.

NFL Team That Has Averaged The Most Points In A Single Season

The 1950 Los Angeles Rams hold the record for having averaged the most points in a single NFL regular season.
The Rams finished 9-3, averaging 38.8 points per game, behind quarterbacks Norm Van Brocklin and Bob Waterfield, who each started six of the team’s 12 regular-season games.

They achieved the incredible accomplishment of scoring at least 60 points twice in a season—a record held by no other team in the modern NFL—in back-to-back weeks.
