Stephen Curry Equal Michael Jordan in a Big NBA Record With a 50-Point Game in the Warriors Loss to Phoenix Suns
On Wednesday, Stephen Curry tied Allen Iverson for the ninth-most 50-point games in NBA history with his 11th career 50-point performance, but the Warriors star’s outburst wasn’t enough to stop Golden State from setting a club record for season-opening road futility in a 130-119 loss to the Phoenix Suns. This 2022–23 season, Stephen Curry is still a firecracker. He continues to be a bright spot for the Golden State Warriors despite their current struggles because of his Michael Jordan-like performances.
No matter how many points the superstar for the Warriors scored, the Suns always had a response. Despite Curry’s points, the Suns dominated for most of the game. The eight-time All-Star connected on 17 of 28 attempts, including 7 of 11 from long distances.
Stephen Curry ties Michael Jordan with the most 50-point games after turning 30
Curry set a new scoring record. He just equaled Michael Jordan for the second-most 50-point games after turning 30 according to ESPN Stats & Info. In his 30s, the 34-year-old great has already put on six such performances; Wilt Chamberlain is the only player with more, with seven.

Curry’s current form and the fact that Golden State must rely on him offensively make it easy to predict that Steph will ultimately tie and surpass Chamberlain’s record this season. The issue for Golden State was that no one else supported Curry on offense. Klay Thompson scored 19 points overall but only made 6 of his 17 shots.

The reigning NBA champion Warriors’ record dropped to 6-9 overall. Curry performed at his peak in the opening period, connecting on 10 of his 13 field goal attempts, including 4 of 5 three-pointers. With a free throw near the end of the second quarter, the two-time MVP, who entered the game averaging about 31 points per game, reached his scoring average.
