Nanea McGuigan is the Director of Basketball Administration & Player Programs for the Golden State Warriors. Recently, the four-time NBA champion surprised her with a title ring. Fans were utterly unaware of the significant surprise Stephen Curry’s Warriors had in store for a longtime employee at their opening night ring ceremony.
She did this so she could admire general manager Bob Myers’ championship ring. She was surprised when Curry called her name in front of the packed Chase Center audience at first, unaware of what was occurring.

In a flash, Lacob instructed her to approach Curry on the court. She was already displaying signs of anxiety and bewilderment, so her countenance spoke a lot. Despite the fact that she had spent the previous 20 years working for the team and keeping everything off the screen, this time was different.
She was able to handle the rush off-screen, but when she was called on-screen, and the spotlight was on her, she was unsure of what to do. For McGuigan, it was a meaningful occasion when Joe Lacob, the majority owner, presented her with her championship ring.

“It’s about understanding the value that women bring into this male-dominated league,” Stephen Curry said in an interview with The Associated Press. “She was one of the first people I met when I got drafted. She made me feel right at home, and my family felt right at home. She was a great ambassador for what the transition was going to be like. Now 14 years later, we felt it was right to honour her with the ring with everybody watching.”

“Nanea is such an important part of our organisation, and she has been for a long time,” said Steve Kerr, the head coach. “She’s one of those people who gets no recognition, but she does so much work and serves so many others.”
