South Carolina’s High School Girls Basketball Team Wins 95-0, Coach Defends The Team

The girls basketball team from Dutch Fork High School in Irmo, South Carolina, went viral on Friday after shockingly defeating Lamar 95-0. Coach Candace Bush of Dutch Fork asserts that she tried all within her ability to prevent the Silver Foxes from scoring more points as they dominated their opponent from the first tip.

Bush told USA Today that she attempted to shift Dutch Fork to a different bracket at the She Got Next Tournament in Lexington, South Carolina, after realizing Lamar was a smaller institution. But Bush never received a response from the tournament administrators, and the match proceeded as planned.

The winning coach of a South Carolina high school girls basketball game between Dutch Fork and Lamar said that the final score might have been worse.

The head girls coach of Dutch Fork High in Irmo, South Carolina, Candace Bush, remarked, “I know it looks bad on the scoreboard.” “My girls weren’t at fault.”

Bush said that during the game, just five or six shots were made by Lamar’s players.

“A couple of times they literally just handed the ball to my girls,’’ Bush said. “Did she really just give it to her?” we asked each other as we sat there on the bench.

“If I had known it was going to be that bad, I would have brought my JV girls to play pretty much the entire game.”

Bush knew the game would not be pretty from the moment it began. In four quarters of play, Lamar allegedly took as few as five or six shots, and on occasion, the Lamar players just handed the ball to Dutch Fork without any opposition.

Bush claimed her team wanted to reach 100 points, but she forced them to keep the ball on every offensive possession as Dutch Fork’s score started to creep into the 90s. The 95-0 score that went viral on social media was made possible by Bush’s clemency, but from her description, it might have been far worse.
