“Sometimes Your Coaches Know Better”- Former Opponent Offers Tony Ferguson Valuable Advice

At UFC 274, Tony Ferguson was on the receiving end of one of the most brutal front kicks fans have ever seen in the promotion. ‘Iron’ landed a perfect front kick in the second round of their fight to render ‘El Cucuy’ unconscious. It was the first time in his professional fighting career that someone had knockout out Ferguson.

In his recent fights, Ferguson spoke about changing his approach to the fight game. The former interim champion stated that he filtered out a lot of distractions and stuck to what his coaches had planned for him instead of listening to his intuitions.

A former opponent in a recent interview shared his thoughts on Ferguson’s new approach to fighting and what he thought of the same. He said, “I actually think Tony has the right idea right now. He’s talking about working with the team, having people who can push him, having a head coach where he’s not the head coach, where he doesn’t wake up and be like ‘I feel like doing this.”

Dariush continued, “Man, just because you feel something, isn’t always the right thing to do. Sometimes your coaches know better. Honestly, 90% of the time when I wake up in the morning, I feel like not training because I’m beat up and I’m old. But that’s not, that’s not how it works. So it’s important to have coaches who expect things from you. And you don’t want to fail that expectation.”

Tony Ferguson vs Nate Diaz the fight to make?

In his previous three fights, Ferguson did not look like himself at all, it was almost as if he was forced to step into the octagon and did not really want to be there. On the contrary, in his fight against Chandler, ‘El Cucuy’ put on a fantastic display and definitely won the first round.

Unfortunately, he was caught by a front kick in the second round that would have knocked out an elephant. In a recent video, Chael Sonnen suggested that a fight between Nate Diaz and Tony Ferguson is the fight to make next at welterweight. What do you think of the matchup?
