“So Much Fun Playing Those Three Years”: Stephen Curry Admits That Warriors Discussed the Possibility of Bringing Kevin Durant Back at the Bay
Many people questioned if the Golden State Warriors would be interested in a reunion with star player Kevin Durant while the Brooklyn Nets were considering potential deals for him. Did Kevin Durant’s return to the Bay Area, where he was once a superstar teammate, ever cross Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors’ minds?
The club would have welcomed Durant back, according to Golden State’s star point guard Stephen Curry, who spoke to Matt Sullivan of Rolling Stone. In the end, The Nets and Durant agreed to go forward together after making amends. Curry claimed that if Golden State had attempted to persuade Brooklyn to trade the 12-time All-Star, he would not have objected.
As part of Rolling Stone’s October cover story, Curry had a number of in-depth discussions with a variety of people about topics like athlete activism and philanthropy, mental health and public policy, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden, among others. Curry also mentioned some baskets.
Stephen Curry was excited at the idea of getting Kevin Durant back
“There was a conversation internally amongst us about ‘If he was available, would you?’ Every team has those conversations, and obviously in our situation, they’re gonna call me and ask me, ‘How do you feel about it?’

“I was never hesitant. The idea of playing with KD and knowing who he is as a person, from our history in those three years, I think KD’s a really good dude. I think he is misunderstood. I think he has had certain things happen in his life that hurt his ability to trust people around him, in a sense of making him feel safe at all times. So all of those things, I understand, having played with him and gotten to know him. I love that dude.
“And if you said, ‘Oh, KD’s coming back, and we’re gonna play with him,’ I had so much fun playing with him those three years, I’d be like, ‘Hell, yeah!’
From 2017 to 2019, Durant was a key member of the Warriors, helping the club achieve two NBA titles and three consecutive NBA Finals appearances. He made the decision to go with Brooklyn as a free agent, but things haven’t worked out for him there.
Stephen Curry and the Warriors will once again be among the title favorites in 2022 even without Durant by his side after he won his fourth NBA championship this summer against the Celtics.
