Shortest NFL Player: Offense, Defense, Current & Of All Times

As the end of the season approaches, a new phenomenon enters the field: Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Deuce Vaughn. Although his small stature (5′ 4”) may appear to be a hindrance, he has demonstrated abilities that transcend his limitations. His quickness and agility amaze as he makes cuts and avoids tackles, confounding conventional wisdom.

Vaughn’s case is notable not just for his ability but also for being the second-smallest player in NFL history.

Shortest current NFL player – Deuce Vaughn

At 5′ 1″, Jack Shapiro holds the record for the shortest player in NFL history. His only appearance in the old NFL was in 1929, with the Staten Island Stapletons.

Deuce Vaughn is, a rookie running back with the Dallas Cowboys. At 5-foot-5, the former Kansas State running back has replaced J.J. Taylor as the NFL’s smallest player after being selected 212th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Taylor was not just the NFL’s smallest player in 2022-23, but also the league’s shortest running back. Taylor is a quarter-inch taller than Vaughn at 5-foot-5 1/4′′.

The shortest NFL quarterback right now- is Kyler Murray

He is, as previously said, 5 feet 10 1/8 inches tall, making him one of the NFL’s smallest quarterbacks.

Despite this, he has demonstrated great talents on the field.

Murray weighs in around 94 kilos (207 pounds). Despite his stature, his mobility and playing style have elevated him to the ranks of the most thrilling quarterbacks.

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young measured in at 5-foot-10 1/8′′, the same height as Murray. We’ll see how Young does in his debut season with the Carolina Panthers under coach Frank Reich.

Shortest defender currently- Myles Bryant

There are various individuals who might claim the distinction of NFL’s smallest defender. Several active NFL defenders are officially classified at 5-foot-8, although people like to make little lies about their genuine height from time to time.

According to his NFL Combine measurements, New England Patriots defensive back Myles Bryant is the smallest active NFL defender, at 5-foot-7 7/8′′.

During his six-year pro football career, ‘Mighty Mouse’ measured 5-foot-7 and played cornerback in 127 games.

Shortest NFL player ever- Jack Shapiro

Jack Shapiro, who stood 5-foot-1 and weighed 119 pounds, is reported to have been the shortest football player. With the height, power, and speed of today’s NFL players, it’s safe to assume Shapiro wouldn’t have lasted long.

To be fair, Shapiro’s career didn’t last long in 1929. He only played in one game, but he did it. Shapiro is now the smallest football player in NFL history.
