Shohei Ohtani’s Documentary Raises Concerns Over The Star’s Pitching Career

Shohei Ohtani put up some impressive numbers on the mound despite being out for the last six weeks of the season due to injury. The 29-year-old has a 10-5 record with a 3.14 ERA in 23 starts.

Shohei Ohtani’s Documentary Raises Concerns Over The Star’s Pitching Career

Despite ongoing doubts over Ohtani’s durability as a pitcher, the Los Angeles Dodgers don’t appear to be too concerned. They reached an agreement earlier this month to pay Ohtani a record-breaking $700 million spread over ten years.

Ohtani, the pitcher, and Ohtani, the hitter, are the two guys the Dodgers are hoping they’re paying for. However, there are some worries about Ohtani’s future after surgery after he tore his UCL for the second time this past season.

The subject of what specific procedure he had is another. During his Dodgers press conference, Shohei spoke via an interpreter and did not mention the surgery.

The type of surgery he underwent is now even more mysterious due to a Japanese documentary.

Ohtani underwent elbow surgery in September. Since Shohei’s MLB debut, this was the second surgery of its kind performed on his elbow.

Even though the Dodgers are cautiously optimistic that Ohtani will fully recover, they are now less certain than they were before after learning fresh facts from his documentary.

A clip from NHK’s Ohtani documentary suggests that Shohei has some worries regarding the condition of his arm.

The new Los Angeles Dodgers player seems to be disclosing in the clip that he had surgery to implant an internal brace and that he had a second tendon removed from his arm.

Narrator: A tendon from his right wrist was transplanted to replace the damaged ligament.

Interviewer to Ohtani: Are you taking it from the left? Add braces (reinforcing material)?

Ohtani’s answer: Yes. It looks like a brace and some sort of biological tissue. I don’t really understand.

Narrator: This is his second surgery as a pitcher, so he will likely be reassigned if he experiences the same symptoms again. For example, I don’t know what position the other fielders will play, but it will be like that.

Ohtani appears to confirm in the discussion that a tendon was removed from his right wrist and subplanted into his arm. The two-time AL MVP also acknowledged that the surgery may have included the use of a brace of some kind.

The Dodgers anticipate Ohtani to pitch in the future even if they are aware that he won’t do so in the upcoming season. Ohtani’s pay will be a meager $2 million under a convoluted deferral deal until 2034.

Crucially, none of this is possible without the use of translation software, which is prone to error and often lacks context, cultural subtleties, and slang.

Is Ohtani a Hall of Famer?

Would Shohei’s reputation as a freak of nature, an amazing aberration, and a baseball unicorn be ruined forever? To put it simply, no. I am here to inform you that Shohei Ohtani has already accomplished enough to be inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
