Shabazz Muhammad, Former 2013 Lottery Pick Trying to Make an NBA Comeback, Feels His Greatest Asset Has Been His ‘Circuitous Path’
29-year-old Shabazz Muhammad hasn’t participated in NBA competition since the 2017–18 campaign. The former No. 14 overall selection of the Minnesota Timberwolves lost favor during his sixth season with the team. After being released by the T-Wolves, he only had one other NBA assignment, which included just 11 games with the Milwaukee Bucks.
The 6-foot-6 wing’s status with the Timberwolves started to wane as he struggled to make an offensive impact and was never much of a perimeter shooter.

Shabazz Muhammad, a former 2013 NBA lottery pick who is now 29 years old, wants to play in the NBA again after spending the previous four seasons overseas.

Shabazz Muhammad and his greatest asset
The Athletic’s Dana O’Neil reported: “Muhammad believes his greatest asset isn’t going to show up on a court. It’s his story and his circuitous path. His experiences, and the humility gained by them, have taught him how to be a better teammate and even more, the value of being a good teammate. By just being in a locker room, he can help younger players. Let them see his appreciation for a second chance, how hard he’s worked and how far he’s traveled just to make it back.”

Shabazz has since worn the uniforms of two CBA teams, the Shenzhen Aviators and the Shanxi Brave Dragons. Muhammad had a short appearance with the Grand Rapids Gold, the Nuggets’ NBAGL affiliate during the 2021/22 season. The San Miguel Beermen of the Philippine Basketball Association was his second team to play for.
