Since the end of the preseason, the former walk-on quarterback at the University of Georgia, who captained the Bulldogs to back-to-back national championships, has not been a member of the Rams.

The Rams selected Bennett, the former Georgia quarterback who won two consecutive national titles, in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Bennet departed the club early in the season after being ranked as the second-best quarterback on the squad after Matthew Stafford, and it doesn’t seem like anybody knows why he was put on the reserve/non-injury football list.

To put it gently, the situation is unclear, and McVay only made it more so at his news conference that concluded the season. In response to a question on Bennett’s potential return to the squad for the 2024 season, the head coach basically acknowledged he had no idea what was going on with the signal caller.

“You know, I don’t know that,” Rams coach Sean McVay said on Wednesday when asked about Bennett’s absence. “I think that’s a conversation for another time. I think he’s doing better, but I wouldn’t be in a position to answer that accurately right now.”

“Out of respect for him and the situation, I’m going to leave all the specifics and particulars in-house,” McVay said. “And I want to be able to do that out of respect for that situation, so I’m not going to really have any follow-up information or anything that I’ll give in that regards.”

Back in October, McVay stated that Bennett was “doing well,” but once more, he provided little information on his situation or leave of absence.

After being recognized at halftime of Georgia’s victory over Ole Miss on November 11, there haven’t been any updates.

Although Stafford only missed one game due to injury during the previous season, which saw him participate in a reasonably healthy 10-7 record, they will undoubtedly want to have his succession plan in place eventually given his advanced age.

How the Rams handle the quarterback issue may be significantly impacted by Bennett’s ability to rejoin the club this summer.
