Sauce Gardner Tweets Asking Jets To Sign Two Elite Receivers In 2024 NFL Free Agency
It’s reasonable to say that Sauce Gardner, a talented cornerback for the New York Jets, is one of the many fans who are expecting the club to add players to the receiving corps this summer.

This season, in the Big Apple, expectations were high due to the Jets’ high-profile acquisition of Aaron Rodgers and their attempt to contend for a title. However, the 2023 season turned into another one centred on growth when Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear four plays into the campaign, meaning the Jets missed the postseason for the thirteenth straight year.

In response to a tweet posing a question about which wide receivers the Jets need to target in free agency, Gardner recommended the Cincinnati Bengals’ Tee Higgins and wideout Calvin Ridley of the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Jets need a boost at receiver regardless of whether they are able to sign one or both of Gardner’s two proposed signings. With the exception of Garrett Wilson, who had his second consecutive 1,000-yard receiving campaign, the Jets’ receiving group produced almost nothing on the field in 2023.

In the receivers’ room, Allen Lazard was New York’s second-leading pass-catcher after agreeing to a four-year deal reportedly for $44 million. Lazard only caught 23 passes for 311 yards and one score out of 49 targets. On three occasions, the 28-year-old was a healthy scratch.
Gardner may be dreaming, but the Bengals will probably use their franchise tag on Higgins at the very least since he’s the best player among their upcoming free agents. Higgins is coming off a season marred by injuries, during which he played in only 12 games and set career lows with 42 receptions, 656 yards, and five touchdowns.

In his first full season back on the field, Ridley—who was suspended for the whole 2022 season due to gambling—showed that he can still be a dependable option on the outside with 76 catches for 1,016 yards and eight touchdowns. The Jacksonville Jaguars would owe the Atlanta Falcons a 2024 second-round selection if they signed him, despite the fact that they probably would like to have him stay.
To avoid another poor season in 2024, the Jets would be well to heed Gardner’s advice and acquire a top receiver in this year’s free-agent class.
