Saquon Barkley Rejects An Offer Worth $14 Million From Giants

Running back Saquon Barkley of the New York Giants has not taken part in any team workouts during the offseason as he waits for a contract extension. According to a recent NJ.com story, the New York Giants running back declined a contract offer that might have paid up to $14 million annually.

Saquon Barkley Rejects An Offer Worth $14 Million From Giants

On March 7, Saquon Barkley, a running back, was signed by the New York Giants.

The 26-year-old tailback has yet to sign the tag more than two months after it was given to him. However, Barkley’s rejection to sign the essentially one-year contract isn’t all that shocking given his obvious desire to land a long-term deal.

What if, though, a multiyear agreement was on the table?

For the 2023 NFL season, the franchise tag would cost little over $10 million. But the running back is also anticipating his payday after the Giants inked quarterback Daniel Jones to a four-year, $160 million deal extension.

Midway through the 2022 season, the Giants reportedly made an offer to Barkley for a multi-year contract worth $12.5 million yearly. Shortly after the season finished, the team allegedly raised their offer to $13 million with the potential to reach $14 million with incentives.

According to rumors, he wants a contract extension for about $16 million each season. Running back Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers has a deal that is comparable to this one.

If Barkley and the Giants are unable to come to a long-term agreement, it seems expected that Barkley would sign his franchise tag and play on the one-year deal in 2023.

Despite reports that the Giants are eager to give Barkley a hefty contract extension, general manager Joe Schoen might not be open to a deal that is even greater.
