Saquon Barkley Knows Exactly What He Wants When The Trade Deadline Hits

On Thursday, Saquon Barkley expressed his desires to media. He said to Jordan Raanan of ESPN “Sitting here, everyone knows how I feel. Everyone knows I don’t want to get traded. I don’t think anyone in their right mind would want to get traded anywhere. It’s not an easy thing to do. You have to move. I have a family. I would love to be here.”

“But like I said, it’s not in my control. My focus is to be the leader I can be for this team and get this thing on the right track.”

On Sunday, Barkley and the Giants(1-5) take on the Washington Commanders.

Barkley will be making his second appearance following three games missed due to a high ankle injury. In the 14-9 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night, he gained 93 yards on 24 carries through the air.

Saquon has spent his whole professional career with the G-Men. In 2018, they selected him with the second overall selection, out of Penn State. He was named the Offensive Rookie of the Year after exploding out of the gate. He has played in two Pro Bowls. Despite the fact that he has suffered from injuries throughout his career, this is nothing unusual for an NFL running back.

The New York Giants’ current state of desperation may be the reason his name is circulating in trade discussions. They have a terrible position at quarterback and are 1-5. It’s gotten at the point where the Giants may be better off turning to the NFL Draft and dealing for future prospects.

Barkley had a career-high 1,312 running yards in 2022 after staying healthy the whole season. However, he was unable to come to terms with the Giants on a long-term contract, so on the first day of training camp, he accepted a modified franchise tag with an additional $1 million in incentives.

While they attempted to resolve the contract issue, the seasoned running back did not participate in the team’s offseason exercise program this spring.

After this season, Barkley is scheduled to become a free agent once more. For the second year in a row, the Giants can choose to apply the franchise tag.
