As they work through their contract issues, they both stay in touch with the club and coach Brian Daboll.

“First of all, we’ve had a great turnout. We’ve had a few meetings here [Monday]. The guys that are here are excited to be back. We got off to a good start,” Daboll said. “I’ve talked to both of those players, both Saquon and Dex. I’ll leave those conversations as I always do, private.”

According to many sources who have recently spoken to ESPN, Barkley is “unhappy” about being bound by the $10.1 million franchise tag. He won’t soon sign the tag, making it impossible for him to participate in practices or visit the Giants’ team headquarters.

Due to a contract dispute, Lawrence decided to skip the beginning of the offseason program, a source stated.

Lawrence, 25, is currently in the fifth year of his rookie deal. He just had a breakthrough season, compiling a career-high 7.5 sacks. It is anticipated that the excellent defensive lineman’s new contract would be worth more than $20 million annually.

However, they don’t appear particularly worried about the impact Lawrence and Barkley’s absences will have on the locker room at this time.

“Yeah, it’s April 17,” Daboll said. “Again, I’m going to keep all those conversations private. That is the way I’ll always do it. I’m excited about the guys that are here. Much respect for Saquon, and those things in some form or some time will find itself working out.”

Barkley’s circumstance is a tad more complex. With 1,312 running yards and 57 catches, he tied for the club lead last season and finished fourth in the NFL. However, the running back market was weak this summer and in previous years, so the Giants are happy for him to play under the franchise tag at the moment.

After the draft, the two parties may resume talks on a potential new agreement, the person said. To avoid having to play the season on his franchise tender, they have until July 15 to come to an agreement.
