Many people were shocked when the San Francisco 49ers unexpectedly made it into the 2022 NFL postseason. The #6 seed in the NFC was clinched after an unexpected overtime victory over the Los Angeles Rams. The 49ers have been all over the place this whole season. Their 2-4 start to the regular season left most supporters uninspired about their chances in the playoffs, let alone the Super Bowl.

The squad was able to recover, though, and their season ended 10-7. The 49ers are one of the more notable underdogs as we reach the first round of the 2022-23 season. After seeing his pal Sean McVay win one, Kyle Shanahan is ready to do the same. The 49ers share sixth-best odds to win the Super Bowl with the AFC champion Bengals, but +1600 is sweet no matter where it falls. This year’s NFC Champions, the 49ers, lost a substantial lead in the fourth quarter before going on to lose the game. However, in 2022 they will have a new quarterback, giving them new hope.

With all due respect, Jimmy Garoppolo wasn’t carrying the bulk of the offensive load. Everyone was aware that the 49ers’ winning strategy comprised rushing the ball, playing excellent defense, using special teams, and having Garoppolo avoid turnovers.

Given the strength of their roster and how far they advanced with Jimmy Garoppolo, the 49ers are most likely in the correct place at this time. They’ll be back in the top half of the NFC if Trey Lance is at least as good. They may be just as dangerous as a club like the Chiefs or Bills if he improves.
