San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy makes NFL history with TD by ‘Mr. Irrelevant’
Brock Purdy wrote his name into NFL folklore on Sunday when he took the field for the San Francisco 49ers. Purdy replaced the injured Jimmy Garoppolo in the first quarter against the Miami Dolphins. And he took no time in announcing himself to the Niners faithful as he led the team to an impressive 33-17 victory over the in-form Dolphins.
How did Brock Purdy fare on his NFL debut?
Purdy threw 210 passing yards and racked up two touchdowns whilst completing 67.6% of his passes against Miami. It was surely a moment to remember for the rookie, who became the first ‘Mr. Irrelevant to throw a touchdown in the NFL.

Purdy earned the ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ tag after being the final overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The term ‘Mr Irrelevant’ is for players who are the last pick at each NFL Draft. While some may find this derogatory, Mr. Irrelevant does get a special holiday at Disneyland and is invited to golf tournaments as well.
With San Francisco still not having Trey Lance available and Garoppolo out for the remainder of the season with a broken foot, Purdy is expected to lead the line for the NFC West giants. San Francisco is leading the way in the NFC West with eight wins and four losses so far. They are set to make the playoffs and could be heading into the postseason with a ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ as their starting quarterback.

The 49ers will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 14 of the 2022-23 regular season which could be another stern test for Purdy as he comes up against one of the greatest quarterbacks ever, Tom Brady.
Now I have to listen to Colin Cowherd go on live television and talk about Brock Purdy being a better overall quarterback than Miami #Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa.
