First baseman Anthony Rizzo of the New York Yankees left Sunday’s game against the San Diego Padres due to a neck injury.

San Diego Padres News: Fernando Tatis Jr. Collied With Yankees’ Anthony Rizzo At First Base Causing Him Neck Injury

In the triumph over the San Diego Padres that sealed the series, Anthony Rizzo suffered a terrifying injury.

Fernando Tatis Jr. attempted to return to first base after a successful pickoff that ended the inning, but Rizzo got caught up in his leg. Aaron Boone, the manager, stated after the game that Rizzo is “good” and that the Yankees would keep an eye on him.

At first base, the star of the New York Yankees was hurt in a collision with Fernando Tatis Jr. Tatis connected with Rizzo’s helmet as he applied the tag for the out after failing to slide back into the base on a throw from catcher Kyle Higashioka.

Rizzo was knocked to the ground by the collision and was later taken out of the contest. Based on the reaction and the fact that Tatis could have slipped back into the base but chose not to, it seemed awful and may have appeared worse. That may have cost him the opportunity and caused the harm.

Rizzo, 33, came into Sunday having just had an outstanding year. He produced a batting line of.303/.376/.507 (143 OPS+) in his first 52 games, hitting 11 home runs and driving in 31 runs. On Sunday, before departing the game, he added an RBI single to the equation. The calculated value of Rizzo’s efforts was 1.7 Wins Above.

On Sunday, the Yankees made a number of adjustments in lieu of Rizzo. Isiah Kiner-Falefa came in from left field to take over at the hot corner, followed by Greg Allen and DJ LeMahieu, who all slid from third base to first.

Nobody was necessarily to blame for the clash. Tatis didn’t intentionally do anything, and Rizzo only tried to tag him out. However, if Tatis had had any grace with baseball basics, this may have been prevented.
