Russell Wilson injury update: Denver Broncos QB suffering from hamstring and shoulder injuries?
Russell Wilson’s Denver Broncos career has had a rocky beginning, and in Week 5, when the Colts defeated the Broncos on a lackluster “Thursday Night Football,” Wilson’s season reached a new low. Wilson has been getting therapy for his shoulder injury ever since he briefly went on the injury list before Week 5 so that he wouldn’t have to miss any games.
Wilson started against the Chargers on Monday night in a crucial divisional game, but it will be important to keep an eye on his shoulder. Following the game, Wilson also picked up a hamstring injury on Sunday.
Wilson hasn’t played nearly as well as he did with the Seahawks through six games this season. The signal-caller, who is in his 11th season, has only thrown four touchdown passes, and his 82.5 passer rating is a sharp contrast to each of his previous four seasons, during which he recorded passer ratings above 100.0.
According to Broncos coach Nathaniel Hackett, Wilson “dinged up” his throwing shoulder in a Week 4 defeat to the Raiders, and it was said after Denver’s loss to the Colts that Wilson was suffering from strained lat, an injury more common in baseball than in football.
Wilson played despite the pain against Indianapolis and received a platelet-rich plasma injection the following day, the day after the Broncos’ offense put on a terrible all-around effort. However, according to NFL Network, it is “unclear” whether the injection will help Wilson’s shoulder get better.
Wilson had been adamant that he will play against the Chargers ever since. For the primetime game, he assured reporters on Thursday that he would be “ready to play.” Wilson was listed as a limited participant in practice on Thursday but was changed to a full participant for the sessions on Friday and Saturday. On the Broncos’ official injury report for Monday’s game, he was not listed as injured.
Wilson was fortunate to have an extended week because there were 10 full days between the Colts’ loss and Monday’s game at SoFi Stadium. However, having picked up another injury in Week 6, the quarterback may need monitoring.
