Richard Sherman Criticises QB Trevor Lawrence: “Talent not been showcased”

In Week 10, the 49ers crushed the Jaguars, winning 34-3. Lawrence turned the ball over three times, including two interceptions and a lost fumble, which added to the issue.

Richard Sherman On QB Trevor Lawrence: “Talent not been showcased”

Ball security has grown to be a significant concern for the talented quarterback prospect, as Sherman said, and he is not incorrect. Since Lawrence joined the NFL in 2021, no player has turned the ball over more times than him.

Despite the Jaguars’ 6-3 season, Lawrence—the golden kid of the 2021 NFL Draft who was selected first overall—is being scrutinized.

Sherman poked fun of Lawrence’s reputation as a generational talent on Twitter.

He was not incorrect to draw attention to Lawrence’s difficulties with ball security. Lawrence has more interceptions this season than touchdowns, including two in the 49ers’ defeat along with a fumble.

Richard Sherman, an NFL pundit and former cornerback, recently discussed his thoughts on Lawrence’s performance on his personal X account. He said this after the Jaguars’ 34-3 loss to the 49ers in Week 10.

As Sherman clarified:

“So when I make an assessment that Trevor Lawrence hasn’t been the generational talent he was billed to be coming out of Clemson, Jags fans were up in arms. The tape doesn’t lie. ”

“The team has won because the defense has gotten turnovers. At this point Trevor Lawrence has more turnovers than TDs on the season. Despite that his team has been winning. He has all the talent in the world however that has not been showcased consistently.”

Lawrence has only managed nine touchdowns in nine games this season, throwing six interceptions and fumbling seven times for a total of 13.

Another twist to this story is that Brock Purdy, the final pick in the 2022 Draft, outperformed first pick Lawrence in the match. Purdy completed 19 of 26 passes for 3 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.

Lawrence struggled with ball security again in the 2023 NFL season, despite his 6-3 record. He has only thrown nine touchdowns in nine games, but he has also lost two fumbles and thrown six interceptions.

Within fewer than three full seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, he has already turned the ball over an astounding 42 times, including in the postseason. Since he joined the league, this has led all other players.
