Rich Eisen: Daniel Jones & Giants Are Long Done, There’s Nothing Left But Remorse

Although quarterback Daniel Jones received a four-year contract deal with the New York Giants last summer, it appears the organization is already looking to move on from him.

Rich Eisen: Daniel Jones & Giants Are Long Done, There’s Nothing Left But Remorse

The Rich Eisen Show’s Rich Eisen stated around the 5:00 mark on Monday that he learned last week at the NFL Scouting Combine that the Giants “are absolutely done with Daniel Jones.” Eisen continued by saying the organization was sorry to give him a $160 million contract in the previous summer.

“No. 3 of my top-five rumors I heard at the Combine are the Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones. Done. Done,” Eisen said Monday. “Might have to play him this year, but that ain’t it. And they feel … the words I heard at the Combine, multiple times, two words: buyer’s remorse.”

“The Giants are absolutely done with Daniel Jones. The words I heard at the combine multiples times were buyers remorse.”

Eisen’s claim is not without merit, despite the fact that Giants general manager Joe Schoen recently expressed his confidence in Jones as the team’s starting quarterback.

Publicly declaring that they no longer have faith in Jones or that they want to move up in the draft to choose one of the best QB prospects would not benefit Schoen and his staff in the slightest.

Before sustaining an ACL tear in his right knee during the 2023 season, Jones participated in six games. He led the club to a 1-5 record before sustaining his injury, throwing for 909 yards, two touchdowns, and six interceptions.

In the 2019 NFL Draft, Jones was chosen by the Giants with the sixth overall choice. As it happens, New York will choose sixth in the 2024 draft, and this year’s class is filled with talented quarterback prospects such as USC’s Caleb Williams, UNC’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

Rumors usually begin to circulate during the NFL Scouting Combine when clubs set up smoke screens to try to pique other teams’ interest in players who may be traded.

Jones participated in just six games in 2023. He was coming off a season in which he guided the Giants to their first postseason appearance since 2016. He demonstrated his potential effectiveness in peak physical condition.
