Reports: Yankees trade for Rangers slugger Joey Gallo
The New York Yankees, battling for a playoff spot in the American League, acquired Texas Rangers outfielder Joey Gallo on Wednesday, multiple media outlets reported.
The Rangers’ return was unknown.
Gallo, 27, is a two-time All-Star who has 25 home runs and 55 RBIs this year while batting .223 and slugging .490. The right fielder has also drawn a major-league-leading 74 walks.
During June and early July, Gallo hit 11 homers in a stretch of 12 games. He later participated in the Home Run Derby during Major League Baseball’s All-Star break.
He adds a lethal bat to the Yankees‘ lineup as they fight with the American League East-leading Boston Red Sox and the second-place Tampa Bay Rays for playoff position.
The Texas Rangers will receive RHP Glenn Otto, 2B Ezequiel Duran, SS Josh Smith and 2B/OF Trevor Hauver as part of the package from the New York Yankees in the Joey Gallo trade, sources tell ESPN.
Rangers are getting massive haul of prospects in this deal. Others involved, too.
