Reports: The Buffalo Bills And Stefon Diggs Are Having Some Issues Which Are Not Contract Based

Questions were certain to be asked after his absence from minicamp, but the Bills WR Stefon Diggs’ social media post probably made matters worse.

Reports: The Buffalo Bills And Stefon Diggs Are Having Some Issues Which Are Not Contract Based

On Tuesday night, Diggs himself broke his quiet with a strange social media message. “I just be letting people cap. If them lies help you sleep better tell em big dog,” his Instagram story read.

After that, Diggs skipped all of the offseason’s voluntary workouts. Things then took a dramatic turn when coach Sean McDermott expressed his “very concern” about Diggs’ absence from the first session of obligatory minicamp last Tuesday.

The next day, McDermott downplayed the incident and claimed that he had given Diggs permission to skip practice following a chat in which he thought that “we all needed a break and some space.” Allen eventually chimed in and said, “I know, internally, we are working on some things, not football-related. [Stefon] is my guy. I f—— love him. He’s a brother of mine. This does not work, what we’re doing here, without him.”

Stefon Diggs’ discontent with the Bills organization has received a lot of attention, and things now seem to be getting more clear. According to The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin, who cited a source close to the Buffalo locker room, the star wide receiver is dissatisfied with his position in the system and wants more of a say in play-calling.

When the star wide receiver was spotted yelling at quarterback Josh Allen while on the sidelines during his team’s eventual 27-10 playoff defeat to the Bengals, it was clear Diggs wasn’t happy.

It’s unclear why Diggs wants more control over his position and the team’s offensive strategies: In 2022, the wide receiver had 1,429 receiving yards, which came from 108 catches and 154 total

targets. With 11, Diggs also set a new record for touchdown catches.

it’s hard to think to give Diggs playing any bigger role than he already has. Of the 361 receptions the team had on the season, 108 belonged to him exactly one out of every three.. That’s
29.9%. Of their 4,291 receiving yards .If Stefon Diggs expects 40 or even 50% receptions, they’re going to be the easiest team in the NFL to game plan for.

This is not first time Diggs is not happy about calling that frustrated him:

Given that Diggs signed a four-year, $96 million deal in 2022, it may be a comfort for the Bills and their supporters that his apparent problems with the organization are unrelated to his

salary. That suggests that the problems could be resolved by the 2023 season.

Since moving to Buffalo in 2020, Diggs has become as one of the most powerful receivers in the NFL. He has accumulated 4,189 yards, which places him fourth in the NFL behind Tyreek Hill (4,225), Davante Adams (4,443), and Justin Jefferson (4,825). Behind Adams’ 498 targets, he has 484.
