Reports: Malik Willis Outperformed Rookie Will Levis This OTA

The second-round pick’s rocky start to life in the NFL has continued as he was “outperformed” in his quest to become the Tennessee Titans’ backup quarterback.

Reports: Malik Willis Outperformed Rookie Will Levis This OTA

After being projected as a top-10 pick, Levis suffered a devastating decline in the April draft, going to the second round and being selected by Titans with the 33rd overall choice.

We anticipated that when Levis arrived, he would challenge Ryan Tannehill, a seasoned starter, for a position in the starting lineup. However, the competition we are witnessing is for the backup position between Levis and Malik Willis. Levis isn’t doing so well, and Malik Willis, a former third-round choice of the Titans, is reportedly outplaying him.

However, those same rumors state that Willis may still be let go even if he keeps outperforming Levis. Last year, Willis started three games and had a 1-2 record. Because the Titans front management didn’t think Willis would contribute enough in 2022, Levis was selected.

When Willis, a third-round pick in 2022, replaced injured quarterback Ryan Tannehill in three games, he struggled, throwing three interceptions, going scoreless, and failing to reach 100 passing yards in each contest. Vrabel chose to start Josh Dobbs over Willis because the Titans needed to win the last regular-season game to qualify for the playoffs.

But it’s still unclear whether Willis’ development heading into his second season will be sufficient to earn a roster place. According to Wyatt, despite the NFL’s new rule allowing clubs to wear a third quarterback on game days, Willis still has to put in some effort to ensure that he will be playing for the Titans by the end of rookie training camp, which starts on July 22.
