Reports: Hal Steinbrenner Chose To Stick With Brian Cashman Again, But Boone Still Unsafe?
Do you think Hal Steinbrenner is starting to perhaps realize why Yankees supporters are upset?
Unfortunately, GM Brian Cashman is allegedly safe no matter what transpires the rest of the way, despite everyone crossing their fingers through the first 100 words of this story. That choice has already been decided. They boldly asserted, while remaining anonymous, “The thought (of firing Cashman) isn’t even on the table. It is not subject to debate.
Reports: Hal Steinbrenner Chose To Stick With Brian Cashman Again
Given the championship-or-bust attitude most of them possess, fans have been calling for the dismissal of general manager Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone for a number of years (their most recent was in 2009). One of them, though, appears to be here to stay.

Hal Steinbrenner, the team’s owner, “isn’t even on the table” and is “not up for discussion,” according to New Jersey Advance Media.
Boone’s future is less assured, in part because his contract only has one year left. That, along with the Yankees’ poor play during the 2023 season, have left Steinbrenner “deeply frustrated,” according to the same individual who is familiar with Steinbrenner’s thought process.
Brian Cashman will return in 2024. Aaron Boone’s status with the Yankees is less certain.

However, they have fallen backward since Boone came in New York; the furthest they have advanced during his tenure was Game 6 of the 2019 ALCS, and they were swept in the championship series last year. Those two defeats came at the hands of the fearsome Astros.
Boone’s first deal with New York ran out in 2021, but they signed him to a three-year deal that would expire after the next campaign, making it a little bit easier to let him go. Prior to this, Cashman agreed to a four-year deal.

In May, when asked what it would take to fire Boone, Steinbrenner said, “I think one of the most important things for me is he has the respect of the players. They want to play for him and they want to win for him. And if I saw that disappear, then I make a change.”
A month later, he sounded a warning: “If we don’t make the playoffs and we’re healthy the second half of the year and we start getting guys back and we get the team that we intended to be on the field, then I’m going to be asking some tough questions.”

What is preserving Boone’s candidacy given the likelihood of ending out of the running or, at most, an early round exit? Or Cashman’s, for that matter?
Another person in Steinbrenner’s sphere of influence claimed that the safety net was the owner’s desire to avoid making difficult decisions and remain anonymous.

The Yankees were 36-25 and 11 games above.500 on June 4. Since then, they have gone 23-30.
Baseball’s 29th-best hitting average belongs to New York, and aside from AL Cy Young Award front-runner Gerrit Cole, their rotation has fallen far short of expectations. Carlos Rodon was given a six-year, $162 million contract, but he has already spent time on the injured list twice this year and has a 7.33 ERA. This season, Luis Severino has a 7.74 ERA on the mound.
The Yankees’ bullpen, which has the best collective ERA in MLB at 3.04, has been a bright light.
