Grammy Winner Rapper Drake Loses Million Dollars In A Bet On FIFA World Cup

According to Metro.co.uk, Drake lost a million dollars after placing a wager on the match between France and Argentina in the FIFA World Cup final. On December 17, the 36-year-old Canadian rapper Drake disclosed on Instagram that he had favoured Argentina and Lionel Messi to defeat France in the final match of the competition.

He placed the bets on Stakes, and if he had won, he would have received $2.75 million, according to a post on his now-deleted Instagram Story. “I’ll take Argentina, he’ll take France. That will be a vibe,” he had also said in a TikTok video while wearing a Napoli jersey ahead of the summit clash. Despite backing Argentina, he lost a massive amount due to a technicality.

He made a notable bet on the champion team defeating France in 90 minutes. However, a last-second goal from Kylian Mbappe of France forced overtime and then penalties, rendering Drake’s bet meaningless. After 90 minutes of play, the score was 2-2; after overtime, it was 3-3. On penalties, Argentina won the match 4-2.

According to Vulture, the problem was that Drake “placed a bet in a market where extra time is not taken into account and the outcome is determined based on the score after 90 minutes of play.”

The Canadian artist enjoys making large bets on expensive sporting events. Drake once placed a significant wager on the Super Bowl, splitting $1.26 million among three bets for the Los Angeles Rams to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals, and ended up earning $1.4 million. However, the singer suffere=d a severe loss after wagering $2 million on a UFC fight on November 12 in New York during UFC 281.
